Before it opened, this Pink Line station was named South Campus; in December 2014 the Delhi government renamed it Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus. It opened on 14 March 2018 as an elevated station of Phase III, on the Ring Road near the junction of Benito Juarez Marg, between Delhi Cantt. and Sir M. Vishweshwaraiah Moti Bagh.

Its distinguishing feature is the link with Dhaula Kuan on the Airport Express Line. The foot-over bridge between the two stations opened on 9 February 2019 and has 22 travelators. DMRC treats this walkway as its own “line”, LN12, and its journey planner routes it as a 15-minute walking leg of 1.5 km with no fare; DMRC’s platform list for the station includes the travelator alongside the two Pink Line platforms.
