The Violet Line, DMRC’s Line 6, runs for 45 km from Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh). It is underground from Kashmere Gate to Jangpura, passing Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate, ITO and Khan Market, and elevated from Lajpat Nagar onwards, with Kalkaji Mandir the one underground station on that stretch. The last eleven stations, from Sarai to Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh), are in Faridabad, Haryana. The section from ITO to Kashmere Gate is popularly known as the Heritage Line.

Five stations are interchanges: Kashmere Gate for the Red and Yellow Lines, Mandi House for the Blue Line, Central Secretariat for the Yellow Line, Lajpat Nagar for the Pink Line and Kalkaji Mandir for the Magenta Line.

Departure times from this station on a weekday, as DMRC’s journey planner gives them (checked on Tuesday 20 October 2026; the planner takes no date). DMRC does not publish separate Saturday, Sunday or holiday times for each station, and on special days it announces changes in advance. A last train after midnight belongs to the previous evening’s service. “Not published” means DMRC’s own answer was inconsistent (arrival before departure), so we leave it out.

History

The first Violet Line section, from Central Secretariat to Sarita Vihar, opened on 3 October 2010, later than the March 2010 that had been planned. During construction, on 12 July 2009, part of a bridge under construction at Zamrudpur, near East of Kailash, collapsed when a cantilever pier gave way under the load of a launching girder; six people were killed and 15 injured. The next day a crane removing the debris collapsed and brought down two more, injuring six. The line reached Badarpur Border on 14 January 2011.

It then grew at both ends. Mandi House and Janpath opened on 26 June 2014 and ITO on 8 June 2015. On 6 September 2015 a fully elevated extension of 13.87 km with nine stations took the line from Badarpur Border into Faridabad, the second metro line to cross the Delhi–Haryana border after the Yellow Line. The Heritage Line, from ITO to Kashmere Gate through Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid and Lal Quila, opened on 28 May 2017, and on 19 November 2018 the line reached Sant Surdas (Sihi) and Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh). Depots serve it at Sarita Vihar, next to Mohan Estate, and at Ajronda, next to Neelam Chowk Ajronda.

How the service works

DMRC splits the Violet Line at Badarpur Border. Between Kashmere Gate and Badarpur Border trains run on average every 3 min 24 s in the weekday peak and every 4 min 40 s off-peak. The Faridabad section to Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh) has half that service: 6 min 48 s in the peak and 9 min 20 s off-peak. On weekdays the first trains leave both ends at 06:00 and the last at 23:00; counting intermediate stations, departures run from 05:30 to 00:16.

The trains

Violet Line trains are standard gauge, built by a Mitsubishi–Hyundai Rotem–BEML consortium under a single order shared with the Green Line. That order covered 196 cars, as 46 four-car and two six-car trains; one was built in Changwon, South Korea, and the rest at BEML’s Bengaluru factory. The cars are 2.9 metres wide, against 3.2 metres for broad-gauge stock, and the line is signalled with Bombardier CITYFLO 350.
