Delhi Metro Magenta Line
Two sections that do not yet connect: Krishna Park Extension to Botanical Garden, and Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park.
About the Magenta Line
The Magenta Line runs today as two sections that do not connect: Krishna Park Extension – Botanical Garden, and Deepali Chowk – Majlis Park, opened on 8 March 2026. The link between Krishna Park Extension and Deepali Chowk is under construction, so there are no through trains.
On 20 October 2026 DMRC’s website showed the line as “Normal Service”. That is the only live information DMRC publishes; check it on the day you travel.
Under construction and not open: Magenta Line Krishna Park Extension – Deepali Chowk and Majlis Park – R.K. Ashram Marg. These sections are not part of the line on this page.
DMRC’s Line 8 has 33 stations on two separate sections, 46.86 km in all. The longer one, 26 stations, runs from Krishna Park Extension through Janakpuri West, Terminal 1-IGI Airport, Hauz Khas and Kalkaji Mandir to Botanical Garden in Noida. The other, opened on 8 March 2026, has seven elevated stations from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park. There are no through trains between the two.
From Krishna Park Extension to Kalkaji Mandir all but three stations are underground; Janakpuri West, Sadar Bazar Cantonment and Shankar Vihar are elevated, as is everything from Okhla NSIC to Botanical Garden. Seven stations are interchanges: Janakpuri West and Botanical Garden with the Blue Line, Hauz Khas and Haiderpur Badli Mor with the Yellow Line, Kalkaji Mandir with the Violet Line, Majlis Park with the Pink Line and Madhuban Chowk with the Red Line.

Departure times from this station on a weekday, as DMRC’s journey planner gives them (checked on Tuesday 20 October 2026; the planner takes no date). DMRC does not publish separate Saturday, Sunday or holiday times for each station, and on special days it announces changes in advance. A last train after midnight belongs to the previous evening’s service. “Not published” means DMRC’s own answer was inconsistent (arrival before departure), so we leave it out.

History
The Magenta Line was built in Phase 3 and was due for completion in December 2016, but difficult tunnelling pushed the date back. Trial runs began in August 2017, and the first section, 8.679 km with nine stations from Botanical Garden to Kalkaji Mandir, opened on 25 December 2017. The rest of the Phase 3 line, 24.82 km on to Janakpuri West, was inaugurated on 28 May 2018 and opened to passengers the next day. At Dabri Mor – Janakpuri South two parallel tunnels were bored at the same time, and Hauz Khas station lies 29 metres below ground.
Phase 4 has so far added two pieces. A 2.8 km stretch from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension opened on 5 January 2025, and the seven-station Deepali Chowk – Majlis Park section, tested with new Alstom Metropolis trains from November 2025, opened on 8 March 2026. Near Haiderpur Badli Mor its viaduct reaches 28.362 metres above the ground at pier 340. In its press releases of February and July 2026 DMRC described the links from Krishna Park Extension to Deepali Chowk and from Majlis Park to Ramakrishna Ashram Marg as under construction; until they open, the two sections run separately.
How the service works
On the main section DMRC’s average interval between Botanical Garden and Janakpuri West is 5 min 20 s in the weekday peak and 6 min 05 s off-peak. The short stretch on to Krishna Park Extension is worked as a single-line section and gets half that service, a train every 10 min 40 s in the peak and 12 min 10 s off-peak. The Deepali Chowk – Majlis Park section has a train every 5 min 20 s in the peak and 6 min 20 s off-peak. On weekdays the first trains leave the four ends between 05:50 (Krishna Park Extension) and 06:30 (Deepali Chowk), and the last between 22:50 and 23:00.
The trains
The Deepali Chowk – Majlis Park section is worked by new Alstom Metropolis trains from Mukundpur depot, which was upgraded to maintain Magenta Line trains as well as Pink Line ones. On the main section, the stretch to Krishna Park Extension was at first served by a single modified Hyundai Rotem train running as a shuttle, with its first and last coaches closed to passengers. That shuttle has since given way to through trains: every alternate train from Botanical Garden now continues to Krishna Park Extension.
Frequently asked questions
Not on one train. The two Magenta Line sections are not yet connected, so the journey needs changes on other lines. Our route planner works out the combination for any pair of stations.
Yes, Terminal 1. Terminal 1-IGI Airport, an underground station between Sadar Bazar Cantonment and Shankar Vihar, is on the main section. The Airport Express Line serves a different stop, Airport (T-3).
The 2.8 km stretch from Janakpuri West is worked as a single-line section, so only every alternate train from Botanical Garden continues there. DMRC’s frequency figures for it are double those of the rest of the main section.
