DMRC’s Line 2 runs for 47.25 km from Samaypur Badli in North West Delhi to Millennium City Centre Gurugram in Haryana, with 37 stations; the last five, from Guru Dronacharya onwards, are in Gurugram. The line is elevated at both ends and underground in between. Every station from Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar to Saket is below ground, as is Azadpur, while Model Town, between the two, is elevated.

Nine stations are interchanges. The Yellow Line meets the Red and Violet Lines at Kashmere Gate, the Blue Line at Rajiv Chowk, the Airport Express at New Delhi and the Violet Line again at Central Secretariat. It crosses the Pink Line at Azadpur and Dilli Haat – INA and the Magenta Line at Haiderpur Badli Mor and Hauz Khas, and at Sikanderpur it connects with Rapid Metro Gurugram.

Departure times from this station on a weekday, as DMRC’s journey planner gives them (checked on Tuesday 20 October 2026; the planner takes no date). DMRC does not publish separate Saturday, Sunday or holiday times for each station, and on special days it announces changes in advance. A last train after midnight belongs to the previous evening’s service. “Not published” means DMRC’s own answer was inconsistent (arrival before departure), so we leave it out.

History

The Yellow Line was the second Delhi Metro line to open, after the Red Line, and its first section was also the network’s first underground one: the 4 km from Vishwavidyalaya to Kashmere Gate, inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 19 December 2004 and opened to passengers the next day. On 3 July 2005 it was extended to Central Secretariat, taking in Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk and Patel Chowk.

The extension to Jahangirpuri, with Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Model Town, Azadpur and Adarsh Nagar, opened on 4 February 2009. In 2010 the line grew in an unusual order. The Gurugram end, from Qutab Minar to Millennium City Centre Gurugram, opened first, on 21 June 2010, and was joined to the rest of the line on 3 September 2010, when the underground section from Central Secretariat to Saket opened through Jor Bagh, AIIMS, Green Park and Hauz Khas. Chhatarpur, between Qutab Minar and Sultanpur, opened on 26 August 2010, two months after the section around it. The last addition came on 10 November 2015, when the line was extended from Jahangirpuri to Samaypur Badli through Haiderpur Badli Mor and Rohini Sector 18, 19.

How the service works

DMRC’s frequency figures divide the line at Vishwavidyalaya. Between there and Millennium City Centre Gurugram trains run on average every 2 min 54 s in the weekday peak and every 3 min 30 s off-peak. Between Vishwavidyalaya and Samaypur Badli the interval doubles, to 5 min 48 s in the peak and 7 minutes off-peak. On weekdays the first trains leave both termini at 06:00; the last departs Samaypur Badli at 23:00 and Millennium City Centre Gurugram at 00:00. Counting intermediate stations, trains run from 05:30 to 00:20.
