Rapid Metro Gurugram is owned by HMRTC and operated by DMRC. From Sector 55-56 it runs to Sikanderpur, where it meets the Yellow Line, and then round a one-way loop: Phase 2, Belvedere Towers, Cyber City, Moulsari Avenue, Phase 3 and back to Phase 2.

On 20 October 2026 DMRC’s website showed the line as “Normal Service”. That is the only live information DMRC publishes; check it on the day you travel.

Rapid Metro Gurugram belongs to the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) and is run by DMRC as its administrator for operations and maintenance. All 11 stations are elevated and all are in Gurugram. From Sector 55-56 the line heads through Sector 54 Chowk, Sector 53-54, Sector 42-43 and Phase 1 to Sikanderpur, its only interchange, with the Yellow Line. Past Sikanderpur, trains go round a one-way loop that serves Phase 2, Belvedere Towers, Cyber City, Moulsari Avenue and Phase 3.

At Sikanderpur the Rapid Metro and Yellow Line stations are joined by a walkway 90 metres long and 9 metres wide. The track is double between Sikanderpur and Phase 2, and single round the rest of the loop. Platforms are 75 metres long.

Departure times from this station on a weekday, as DMRC’s journey planner gives them (checked on Tuesday 20 October 2026; the planner takes no date). DMRC does not publish separate Saturday, Sunday or holiday times for each station, and on special days it announces changes in advance. A last train after midnight belongs to the previous evening’s service. “Not published” means DMRC’s own answer was inconsistent (arrival before departure), so we leave it out.

History

A 3.2 km line from Sikanderpur to National Highway 8 was first proposed in September 2007. The developer DLF wanted metro connectivity for its Cyber City, and a new tender in July 2008 drew a single bidder, a DLF–IL&FS consortium. The private party paid the whole cost of the project and was also responsible for running and maintaining it. The contract was awarded in July 2009 and the foundation stone laid on 11 August 2009. Rapid Metro Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) built the line, trial runs took place in October 2012, and the first phase, the loop and Sikanderpur, opened on 14 November 2013, later than the 2012 opening first planned.

Work on the second phase, from Sikanderpur to Sector 55-56, began in April 2013. It opened on 31 March 2017 without Sector 53-54 and Sector 42-43, which followed on 25 April 2017. In September 2019 IL&FS said it no longer had the resources to run the line; after a dispute with the Haryana government and a ruling of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, DMRC took over its operation.

How the service works

DMRC’s Rapid Metro page gives one figure for the whole line: a train on average every 5 min 20 s in the weekday peak and every 7 min 20 s off-peak. Because the loop is one-way, a journey from Phase 3 to Sikanderpur goes via Phase 2, while trains from Sikanderpur reach Belvedere Towers via Phase 2 and carry on round. On weekdays the first train leaves Sector 55-56 for Phase 3 at 06:00 and the last at 22:00; from Phase 3 the first departure is at 06:19, and DMRC does not publish a last one. Across the line, trains run from 06:00 to 22:31.

The trains

Siemens won a turnkey contract for the line on 21 April 2010 that included five three-car trains, subcontracted to CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive; the first, built in China, arrived in Gurgaon on 11 September 2012. RMGL then ordered seven more three-car sets for the second phase, the last four of which arrived on 5 February 2016. The aluminium-bodied, air-conditioned trains are silver and blue, 59.94 metres long and 2.8 metres wide, with four doors on each side of each coach and room for about 800 passengers.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The two Sikanderpur stations are linked by a walkway 90 metres long and 9 metres wide. Sikanderpur is the only point where Rapid Metro Gurugram meets the rest of the network.

The loop is one-way. From Sikanderpur trains run to Phase 2, then Belvedere Towers, Cyber City, Moulsari Avenue and Phase 3, and come back to Phase 2 before returning to Sikanderpur. A trip from Phase 3 to Sikanderpur therefore goes via Phase 2.

It is owned by HMRTC and operated by DMRC. It was built and first run by Rapid Metro Gurgaon Limited, a private company; after IL&FS said in September 2019 that it could not continue, DMRC took over operations following a High Court ruling.
