The name comes from the Karkardooma locality of East Delhi, which takes it from the historic twin village of Karkari; DMRC’s own gate labels still use the Karkardooma spelling. The station opened on 6 January 2010 on the Vaishali branch of the Blue Line, and later became an interchange with the Pink Line.

Both parts are elevated, but not at the same height: the Blue Line station is 14.5 m up, while the Pink Line platforms stand 20 m above ground. Gates 3 and 4 belong to the Pink Line side. On the Blue Line the neighbours are Anand Vihar ISBT and Preet Vihar; on the Pink Line, Anand Vihar ISBT again and Karkarduma Court. Blue Line trains on this branch include through services between Dwarka and Vaishali. The locality is also home to the Karkardooma District Court, in a complex built in 1997–98.

A last train after midnight belongs to the previous evening’s service. “Not published” means DMRC’s own answer was inconsistent (arrival before departure), so we leave it out.
