Opened on 30 December 2005 together with its namesake one stop away, Uttam Nagar West is the outer of the two Uttam Nagar stations on the Blue Line. Next comes Nawada on the way to Dwarka, and Uttam Nagar East in the other direction. The station is elevated, with side platforms: trains for Dwarka Sector 21 use platform 2, and trains for Noida Electronic City and Vaishali use platform 1.

It has four gates, more than its eastern twin, and DMRC sends them to three different places, named in its gate list. As at the other Dwarka-side stations, the train you board may run to either branch after Yamuna Bank, since DMRC operates through services to Vaishali as well as to Noida Electronic City.
