It was earlier known as Surajmal Stadium.

The stadium beside Gate No. 2 gives this station its name, formerly shortened to Surajmal Stadium. It honours Maharaja Surajmal, the Jat ruler who defeated the invading Afghan army of Ahmad Shah Abdali and fought against the Mughals by uniting the Jats of his time. The elevated Green Line station opened on 2 April 2010.

Its side platforms lie between Nangloi and Udyog Nagar, under two minutes from each. City-bound trains continue past Ashok Park Main to one of two branch ends, Inderlok or Kirti Nagar, while the opposite platform serves Brig. Hoshiar Singh.
