DMRC calls Shahdara the first metro station of its network. The Delhi Metro began here: the first stretch, 8.2 km from Shahdara to Tis Hazari on the Red Line, was inaugurated on 24 December 2002 by the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and commercial service started the next day. Shahdara was one of the first six stations.

DMRC describes it as an elevated station near G.T. Road and Chota Bazar, giving connections to Shahdara railway junction, where many long-distance trains stop or start. Its two gates reflect that: Gate 1 at the west end faces GT Road, Parsavnath Mall and Vikas Cinema Mall, while Gate 2 at the east end is on the Indian Railways side. The neighbouring stations are Mansarovar Park and Welcome.

DMRC does not publish separate Saturday, Sunday or holiday times for each station, and on special days it announces changes in advance. A last train after midnight belongs to the previous evening’s service. “Not published” means DMRC’s own answer was inconsistent (arrival before departure), so we leave it out.
