It was earlier known as Okhla.

Until December 2014 this station was simply called Okhla. It opened on 3 October 2010, part of the first stretch of the Violet Line to open, timed for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games that day. It is elevated, with side platforms, between Govind Puri and Jasola-Apollo.

The station serves Harkesh Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Okhla Phase II and IIIT Delhi. Three of its four gates, Gates 2 to 4, carry the same DMRC label: Harkesh Nagar, Sanjay Colony and Okhla Phases 1, 2 and 3. Gate 1 is different, labelled for the Shamshaan Ghat and IIIT Delhi.
