It was earlier known as GTB Nagar.

Until June 2019 this station went by its abbreviation, GTB Nagar; it was then renamed with the full name, Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar. It opened on 4 February 2009 on the underground part of the Yellow Line, between Vishwavidyalaya and Model Town, and has side platforms. The area it serves is also known as Kingsway Camp.

DMRC’s description lists an unusual mix of neighbours: Dr. Mukherjee Nagar, which it calls a civil service coaching hub, a school for the blind, the Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis, a Delhi University international girls’ hostel, and Kamla Nagar market, which it describes as one of Delhi’s major shopping centres. It has five gates, from Outram Lines to the New Police Line.
