It was earlier known as Race Course.

Race Course was the name on the signs when this underground stop opened on 3 September 2010. It became Lok Kalyan Marg after the road it serves was given its present name in 2016, and DMRC’s own description still says it was formerly known as Race Course Metro Station. Trains call at an island platform between Jor Bagh and Seva Teerth, each a little over two minutes away on the Yellow Line.

DMRC places Nagaland House opposite Gate No. 1 and the Tughlak Road police station opposite Gate No. 2, and it gives a long list of places that, in its words, enhance the station’s importance: the Prime Minister’s House and Office, the embassies, the Rail Museum, Safdarjung Tomb, the Nehru Memorial Library, the Gymkhana Club and the Race Course itself, along with hotels such as the Ashoka, Taj Palace, Claridge’s, Samrat and ITC Maurya, and Jesus and Mary College, Maitri College and the Air Force School. That police station has its own place in history: the FIRs for the assassinations of Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi were registered there.
