Janakpuri West Metro Station
Blue Line and Magenta Line · West Delhi, Delhi
About Janakpuri West metro station
Two stations in one, in DMRC’s own words: elevated for the Blue Line and underground for the Magenta Line. The Blue Line part opened on 30 December 2005. The Magenta Line section was inaugurated on 28 May 2018 by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and commercial operations began the next day. DMRC adds that the station is also known as District Centre.
The Magenta Line platforms came with very tall escalators. They rise 15.65 metres, the height of a five-storey building, which surpassed the 14.575-metre escalators at Kashmere Gate; each is 35.32 metres long horizontally and weighed 26 tonnes, and a 250-tonne crane was brought in to install them. On the Magenta side, Krishna Park Extension is the next stop and the end of the line, while Dabri Mor – Janakpuri South leads on towards Botanical Garden.
