Trains first reached Central Secretariat on 3 July 2005, and for five years the station was the southern end of the Yellow Line, until 3 September 2010. A month later, on 3 October 2010, the Violet Line began here, and the station remained that line’s northern terminus until 26 June 2014; today Violet Line trains run through it to Janpath on one side and Khan Market on the other.

Both lines are underground. Adding the Violet Line platforms was the first time an operational underground station had been expanded to take an interchange, and the first time an interchange was provided at both the concourse and the platform level. Each platform is 140 metres long and 6.5 metres wide, and the Violet Line tunnel here is a cut-and-cover box. DMRC describes the station as the closest one to Parliament House, Rail Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan and the Ministry of Rural Development, as well as to India Gate.

A last train after midnight belongs to the previous evening’s service. “Not published” means DMRC’s own answer was inconsistent (arrival before departure), so we leave it out.
