The Blue Line has called at Mandi House since 11 November 2006; the station became an interchange in Phase III, when a new line from Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate was built in stages. The Central Secretariat – Mandi House section opened on 26 June 2014, Mandi House – ITO on 8 June 2015 and the last stretch to Kashmere Gate on 28 May 2017. Turning Mandi House into an interchange was meant to reduce pressure on Rajiv Chowk.

Both stations are underground, with side platforms. The newer line, now part of the Violet Line, runs on standard gauge, and its neighbours here are ITO and Janpath; on the Blue Line they are Barakhamba Road and Supreme Court. The area is known for the National School of Drama, Ravindra Bhavan (home of the Sangeet Natak Akademi and Sahitya Akademi), Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, Kamani Auditorium and Triveni Kala Sangam, with Bengali Market in the vicinity.
