About Kashmere Gate metro station
Kashmere Gate is a terminus of the Violet Line and a through station on the Red Line and Yellow Line.
Kashmere Gate opened in December 2002 on the Red Line. The Yellow Line passes through it too, and on 28 May 2017 the Violet Line was extended under Phase III to end here, inaugurated by the then Union minister Venkaiah Naidu. That extension gave an alternative route between Central Secretariat and Kashmere Gate and took pressure off the Yellow Line.
DMRC describes it as an underground interchange for the Violet, Yellow and Red lines, serving the Maharana Pratap ISBT, the local DTC bus stand, the Chief Electoral Office, the GPO and the motor spare parts market. A Delhi Metro Rail Police station stands near Gate 1. The station has six platforms and a carpet area of about 118,400 square feet. Its neighbours are Shastri Park and Tis Hazari on the Red Line, Chandni Chowk and Civil Lines on the Yellow Line, and Lal Quila, the only neighbour on the Violet Line, which terminates here.
